Here, it is worth pointing out that terms such as "environment optimizer", "ultra focus" aren't always very meaningful, as proprietary terms used by the manufacturers. What's more, competing manufacturers may use different terms which still mean the same thing!

If I purchase the top spec hearing aids I should be able to hear brilliantly in all environments, right? - probably not. We can often assume that if we pay more we get more. Now that is certainly right in terms of features and technology, top spec hearing aids have more palpable features and functions versus their lower spec'd counterparts. But the golden question is this:
"Is my hearing going to be better if I go for the top spec hearing aids?"
As a clinician, I see people battle the tech vs. budget dilemma frequently. It is a perfectly reasonable question to consider. Can I justify the spend and is the bang worth the buck. Ultimately, it's a decision only the prospective hearing aid buyer should make. It is somewhat subjective and may well be influenced by a number of factors, not least the depth of your pockets and willingness to part with pounds. Some people love tech and are happy to continually update their aids in line with the latest tech innovations. But the final hearing outcome will be influenced not only by the specific hearing aid, but also how it is programmed, what your underlying hearing levels are like (and auditory cognition) as well as the very life you lead and where you like to hang out.
